Somalia: Puntland Information Minister Shot Dead
Hargeisa, Somaliland (Somaliland Globe): Puntland Information Minister, Warsame Abdi Shirwa, has been shot dead by two gunmen in Galkayo around noon today.
Other sources say up to four gunmen dressed in the special forces uniform who were involved in the killing fled the scene.
Sources say the minister was part of an advance team helping to pave the ground for the President of Puntland Abdirahman Farole’s planned visit to Galkayo . Although Puntland has seen assassinations of prominent figures in recent years, Mr. Shirwa is the highest serving official assassinated.
Unlike Somaliland which declared itself as an independent from Somalia, Puntland considers itself an autonomous region within Somalia.
