Hargeisa, Somaliland (SomalilandGlobe)  The Somaliland government has asked Interpeace, the agency that represents the International donors to Somaliland, to leave the country within 24 hours.

The chairman of the election commission, Mr Jama said today that he had asked the government to expel Interpeace, which they accuse of interfering in Somaliland affairs, from the country.

Mr Zomaru, the head of Interpeace in Somaliland, has invited and shared with the political parties of Somaliland the outcome of the voter registration drive of Somaliand on the 27th July.  Both the opposition parties of UCID and KULMIYE have welcomed the outcome of the voter registration drive, which Mr Zomaru shared with them.  However the ruling party of UDUB and the election commission have jointly condemned Interpeace and the data it published.

The European Union and Western nations that support Somaliland’s democratisation process have appointed Interpeace to represent it in Somaliland.  However the relationship between the election commission, especially the chair and vice chair of the election commission have hit rock bottom three months ago, when Interpeace accused the two Chairmen of corruption.

The ambassadors of France and America to Kenya have today arrived in Somaliland to persuade President Rayale to reverse his decision to expel Interpeace.

Both the opposition parties of Kulmiye and UDUB have condemned the government of expelling the Interpeace representative.  They have accused the government of having staged a coup and hijacked Somaliland’s democratisation process.
