Presidential elections were due to be held in Somaliland on the 29th March 2009 and his controversial one-year term extension ends a week later on April 6.

However these dates have been postponed amid rumors and allegations from opposition parties that the government is not ready to contest in free elections.

President Rayale has already had his term of office extended by one year, once before, and the opposition parties vow that this time there will not be any more extensions.

It is sad that our current government seeking another extend when their term expires in April. If that happens it will show they don’t care for the interest of the people but rather for their own. Second if the legislative branch allows another extension there is no check and balance. Third if the opposition parties don’t speak out about the constitution crisis.
