dHARGEISA, Somaliland (Somaliland Globe)- President Rayale has today officially accepted the resignations of all seven members of Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) following the recent agreement signed by the ruling party and opposition parties under the auspices of western donor countries.

Under this agreement, western donor countries that support for the on-going democratization and electoral process in Somaliland demanded the replacement of electoral commissioners as a precondition to release any funds to hold the presidential election planned for 28 September 2009 because they were “incompetent” and highly partisan. . All three main political parties including the ruling party agreed to this assertion which led to presidential election being rescheduled.
President Rayale issued a press release today in which he nevertheless admired the electoral commissioners for their time and effort and the sense of responsibility they have shown in resigning from their posts in order to facilitate an environment conducive for the holding of free and fair election to be put in place.
The commissioners had been under enormous pressure for sometime and finally decided to tender mass resignations.
