UCID Party: No Agreement On Formation Of Interim Government

HARGEISA, Somaliland (Somaliland Globe) — The opposition UCID party of Somaliland released a press statement in Somali denying “unconfirmed reports” of agreement between it and the other opposition party KULMIYE on the formation of an interim government.
The statement said the party is in exploration talks and is looking at various options, but has not agreed with KULMIYE on the formation an interim government led by the leaders of the two houses of the parliament after the term of the current government ends at the end of October, 2009.
In the past some opposition supporters criticized the stance of the party leader, Mr. Faisal Ali Farah (Waraabe), accusing him of undermining numerous efforts to form a united front to rein in the administration’s usurpation of parliamentary powers. The wording of the statement appears careful to repeat that the previous agreements with KULMIYE are still in place, while trying to dispel reports of agreement to form a government led by the leader of the Upper House of the parliament (the Guurti).
